At home care

Now that I am home, we have lots of medicine and at home stuff we have to do to keep me healthy.  One is the sinus rinse.  It is no fun, but today I did it all myself!  It takes over 30 minutes, but u did it!

Here's to getting healthy!!

Trick or treating!!

There are lots of activities at the hospital. Yesterday morning the child life specialist asked if I wanted to join in on the hospital trick or treating event and I said "yes"!!

They even had all sorts of brand new costumes for me to chose from!  I decided in a Royals post season hat and rally towel because all the costumes were long sleeved and I was worried about my IV.

We trick or treated all through the hospital and got tons of great toys and surprises!!

I ended up getting a pretty bad headache (been getting a lot of those), so a really nice volunteer told me she would finish trick or treating for me!  She even delivered all the goodies back to my room.  They are all so kind there!

Pet Pals

My second night at the hospital I was invited to Pet Pals.  This is where volunteers bring their trained dogs to visit us sick kids in the hospital.  It was really cool to meet lots of big and little dogs.  The dogs were really well trained.  They even handed out baseball cards with all the dogs information on them!  Pretty cool!

Not all bad...

Luckily we had some fun today at the hospital!  Lots of company (Nama, Papa, aunt Jenny and the Stilley cousins), well wishes, presents, good food (once they finally let me eat) and a Royals World Series win!

Not a good day...

Well, what we thought was a little black eye from a kick at swim lessons turned into much more!

Kate last night:

Kate this morning:

As you can tell, it is getting worse, not better.  This morning Todd took her to the doctor to check on what we thought was an injury.  The pediatrician suggested we go to a pediatric optomoligist as they had not seen swelling around an eye like Kate had.

The eye doctor was very concerned and called Children's Mercy to have us admitted as she believed her eye was a result from an infection and not trauma.  She suggested we get there as soon as possible and even went as far as saying that she "did not think an ambulance was required", but implied  hurrying and said we are lucky we did not wait another 24 hours.  We were all worried about her.

Once we were done waiting way too long at admittance, we were checked into her room and saw dozens of doctors between general practice, ENT, infectious disease, optomoligist, child life specialists, she was given an iv and had a CT scan.  It was a long, hard and scary day!

They determined she has an infection in her sinuses, eye ball and related areas and she finally was given 2 different antibiotics to try to heal her. They will evaluate whether the antibiotics are working. If not, we will have to investigate surgery to drain the infection.  We are all praying that surgery is not needed and that we can go home tomorrow, although I imagine another night at the hospital is likely.

It is so scary to see Kate like this, but she has been so tough and brave.  We are all so proud of her.  We love you, Kate.

Swollen black eye

Last night at swim I was kicked in the eye by a boy in my class while we were swimming.  I did not complain about it much last night, but woke up at 6:00 saying it hurt!  Ouch!

It's swollen and black and blue!!  It looks like I was in a boxing match!!
