Lei Making!

One of the activities our hotel offered was lei making.  An instructor showed us how to make our very own lei....and we did just that.  It was much fun!  I used a needle to sew each flower onto my lei.  After we each made one we got to keep it and wear it out!  So awesome!!!

Nights in Waikiki

We found ourselves getting up early in the mornings and going to bed at a decent hour every night so that we could make the most of the beautiful days. We would typically come up from the beach or pool around 4, showers, get dressed in something cute and then head out.

Sometimes we ate dinner at the hotel (there were lots of options- most expensive though)  - Bennihana, pizza shop, etc - sometimes we went on the strip in Waikiki and ate some cool place on the beach (Duke's Canoe Club on the beach, a steak house overlooking the ocean, PF Changs, etc).  We had some yummy food.

We would also do some shopping in the evening - either on the main street (we took a trolly there) or even at one of the 50+ shops at our hotel.  We loved our vacation!!

Turtle Beach...totally awesome!

This was definately a highlight of the trip...Turtle Beach.  It was so amazing at how many HUGE sea turtles we saw and how close we were to them.  They are just awesome!

Shark's Cove

We had intended on snorkeling off of Shark's cove as we heard it was one of the best places to snorkel on the island (don't worry - no sharks)When we got there we locked our car (as thefts happen here often) and grabbed our snorkeling stuff to head the the beach.  It was really hot and the way out to the beach looked rocky and dangerous for a 5 year old.  That coupled with a feeling of not being safe (there were signs everywhere saying to watch your belongings) had us skip the snorkeling and head to the North Shore instead!  Too bad we missed this one!

La'ie Point

This is the view from La'ie point and it was really amazing!  On April Fool's Day 1946 a tsunami punched a hole right through the island!

When we were at the point we saw some local teenagers cliff dive.  YIKES...it was SO high.  Also looked like some people have died cliff diving at that very point (see the crosses with flowers).  We could not believe they were jumping off such a high cliff!  YIKES!

Kailua

We loved the beaches in the beach town of Kailua.  Our favorite beach was Kailua beach....we loved all the off shore islands and the amazingly calm waters and beautiful view!  We also loved Lanikai...it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world....we understand why!!  We did lots of swimming and playing in the sand.  We could have stayed here all week!

Sandy Beach- Strong Undertow

We stopped at Sandy Beach to get our feet in the sand and to check it out...it was just too pretty not to stop!  When we got there a young boy ran up to us to make sure I was not going to get in the water.  He was a local kid and told us that the water was dangerous as the undertow was too strong today.  It was water for the surfers and bookie boarder...and there were lots of them.

We made sand castles and watched them all have fun in the water!

Halona Blowhole

If you look close right in the middle of the picture you will see a blow hole...it was just spouting a bit of spray when we caught it!

We love exploring the island.  The next few posts will be of some of the amazing things we saw and why we LOVE Hawaii as much as we do!!

Here is a pretty lookout point as we were off exploring the Leeward side of the island.  It was so pretty!
